Description

The students in your classroom are unique in the ways that they approach learning. In this workshop, we will discuss how to address the diverse needs of the students in your classroom, consider the different ways that students learn, and examine what learning means from the perspective of the instructor as well as students. Participants will have the opportunity to modify a learning activity relevant to their teaching practice to better meet the needs of their students. This workshop is open to all graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, it is a requirement for completion of the University Teaching Foundations (UTF) Certificate, and also supports the ASPIRE program.

Intended Learning Outcomes

  • Recognize the diverse ways students in your classroom learn and study
  • Identify the three domains of learning (psychomotor, cognitive, and affective) and experiment with ways to incorporate all three domains into your instructional practice
  • Assess the needs of your students and discuss how to best meet these needs as an instructor
  • Describe processes related to learning and memory and how these apply to the classroom environment
